The latest on the proposed Isla Blanca Park deal.

:The South Texas Chapter held a meeting Feb. 19th at Louie's and we were able to ask questions of Cameron County Judge Gilberto Hinojosa regarding the proposed development of Isla Blanca Park. Basically, the county entered into a lease agreement with a real estate developer (more on the developer below) and changes WILL occur. The extent of which is yet to be determined. At the time of Judge Hinojosa's visit to Surfrider, the proposed development included a new hotel/condo development near Schlitterbahn and a proposed aquarium complex at Children's Beach. The worst case scenario will be if the State Legislature passes the casino gambling bill, then massive changes will take place, jeopardizing the best big surf break in Texas. .
Since the development's plan was not yet approved, Surfrider and other groups asked everyone to Speak up now, let them hear from you. Send letters, write emails, phone in your comments and opinions. The elected officials and the developers are listening!

Garza and Edna Tamayo. Letting these commissioners know your specific concerns regarding this development is the ONLY way to make a difference!

People came together to protect our public beach access. The general consensus was that the park exists FOR ALL THE PEOPLE
